Edgbaston Priory Club

Edgbaston Priory Club’s foundations date back 130 years ago, coinciding with the birth of lawn tennis when Major Harry Gem and Augurio Perera first played the game in Ampton Road, Edgbaston.

However, the club that exists today was formed in December 1964; the result of a merger between Edgbaston Cricket & Lawn Tennis Club and Priory Lawn Tennis Club, both founded in the late 1800s. The club’s logo, a phoenix rising from the ashes, is a reference to a fire that completely destroyed Priory Lawn Tennis Club’s clubhouse in 1963 – the key event that led to the merger.

Situated just minutes from the heart of Birmingham, Edgbaston Priory is the home of the Aegon Classic Birmingham tournament, which attracts many of the world’s best female tennis players.

Exclusive Leisure Limited is proud to have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Edgbaston Priory Club. Initially, we assisted the club in the installation of floodlighting on two courts; in addition to re-lamping a further two courts with existing systems in place. Three years later, Exclusive Leisure installed floodlighting on an additional court, and again installed systems across a further two courts in 2015.

“We have been delighted with the service received from Exclusive Leisure Limited,” said Rob Bray, Chief Executive Officer at Edgbaston Priory.

“Over the years, we’ve established a strong relationship with Steve Percy and the team at Exclusive Leisure. Their knowledge and expertise in their area is unparalleled and, in particular, we were left thoroughly impressed with the responsive nature of the company. From our initial contact, Exclusive Leisure moved very quickly to provide us with all the information we required.

“The quality of facilities installed by Exclusive Leisure is excellent and they have provided Edgbaston Priory with crucial additions to the facilities we have in place. The floodlighting of our courts allow our members to practice and play for longer – and members have equally been as impressed as we have been with the quality of Exclusive Leisure’s installations.

“I would have no hesitation in recommending Exclusive Leisure. Even before asking them to tender, speaking to Exclusive Leisure in advance of any project you’re undertaking is beneficial. They are experts in what they do.”
